Pulsar Modular P915 Medusa 1.0.0

File size: 19 MB

Fixed Filter banks were designed to enhance the main synthesizer signal by adding harmonics or removing them from certain frequencies. Some people wanted to create completely new sonic environments, never heard before, in order to take themselves and their audience into new musical worlds. Some wanted to make more familiar and traditional sounds while pushing the limits and using the new voltage controls and features. Some wanted both.

The new P915 MEDUSA Fixed Filter Bank is redesigned. Filter that adds subtle or less subtle resonances or removes frequency bands. When mixed with the "dry" unaltered signal, this process can mimic the behavior of traditional instruments. This filter structure can be used as a source of unique sound shaping options that are not available with other filter structures.

Many hardware clones based primarily on active filter designs were introduced. The 915's original structure used simple inductors and capacitors as filter cells. This delivered subtle interactions that were lost in the sterile semiconductor world. A design based on the original structure screamed to be pursued. The schematics were examined, any errors that were caused by copying were removed, and circuit boards were created.

Once a hardware model was in place, the software model could be developed. A software model that closely matches the original Moog FFB, with its unique two-stage design, was created by carefully analyzing and measuring the hardware. The addition of some features, like the ability to direct each cell's output to the left or the right channel, adds to the charm, utility and character of the filter.

David Ingebretsen, of Analogue Realities, was responsible for the design, implementation, and quality control of the P915 The P915 MedUSA is, simply put, an exact, meticulous implementation of the Inductor Fixed Filter Bank 915 but with a higher level of functionality, usability, and performance.
