Windows 11. This announcement would have mainly been a demonstration of the new user interface, codenamed Sun Valley. We know that a large portion of the UX will be taken from the Windows 10X shell. Windows 10X, however, is not going to be released. As expected, Windows 11 leaks have begun.
What's New in Windows 11
Windows 11 will have a brand new look. Microsoft needs a reason to go back on its previous claims, and yet still abandon Windows 10, by introducing a brand new operating system. A completely new design would be perfect for this. Redmond has been working on a new design for an update under the code name Sun Valley (or "Sun Valley"), which was formerly Windows 11. Sun Valley was a project that was widely discussed on the internet for many years. Microsoft released details about the new interface, insiders revealed previously unknown information, and designers created realistic concepts using this data.
- The bottom bar will be topped by the Start menu and other system elements. Windows' latest versions have been characterized by the Start menu. Windows 11 will see a similar transformation, though not in purely functional terms, but in terms of visuals - the start window will be positioned above the bottom bar. This small change has a noticeable effect on the overall appearance of Windows. According to information on the internet, Microsoft won't make any major changes to the "inside" of this menu. The innovations will only affect the design of the window. The control panel, which will also be floating, will have the exact same design as the "Start" menu. Action center and control buttons will be combined together. A similar design has been used for years in other operating systems. Most mentions of the new menu suggest that it is an island. The control buttons are on one panel, notifications on another and specific elements, like a player, on a third.
- Right angles are being replaced by new ones
By fillets. Insiders and concept artists are divided on this issue - some believe that Microsoft won't change its tradition and will continue to use right angles while others think that Microsoft will adopt the fillet trend in 2021. This latter option is more in line with "completely new Windows", as hovering menus alone are not sufficient to make a design truly innovative. Fillets will affect everything from the context menus to system panels and all application windows. Even on this subject, concept designers have different opinions - some add fillets to all interface elements while others use right angles.
The background will be translucent with blur all over. The web is divided on the island-style of displaying the windows, the design and levitation of the menu. But almost everyone agrees that the windows will be transparent. Most leaks and renders depict transparency and blurry windows in the Start menu and Explorer. Microsoft had been developing the Windows 10X OS for devices with weak gadgets and two screens in parallel to the Sun Valley Project. These effects were even used in the assembly of this cancelled operating system. The "acrylic transparency" implies new effects that appear when you hover over an element, as well increased spacing between the elements. This will make the areas where the user interacts with the interface larger and the page titles thicker.
- A new font has been already shown. Windows 11 is likely to use the responsive Segoe Variable font as its default, which was already available in Windows 10 Build 21376, for Insiders. It has the advantage of being equally suited to small text and large inscriptions. It is different from other fonts that are designed for small or large sizes. Segoe UI, for example, is currently used in the stable version Windows 10 and was designed to be 9pt. It is difficult to read in smaller fonts and looks unattractive when used for large fonts.
Windows 11 will feature new icons and Windows 95 will be gone. They are still used today. Microsoft will transform all the icons used in the system. This is not about the shortcuts for folders, trash bins and other icons in Explorer. It's all icons in the Shell32 directory. The icons are from Windows 95 and Microsoft only updated the design recently in an insider assembly. They will be migrated to Windows 11.
Windows 11 will feature many functional innovations, but all of them are small. The features of Windows 11 are less well-known than its design. Windows 11 will have all of the features from Windows 10X, which was a canceled OS designed for foldable and weak devices. The image has been leaked on the internet. Windows 11 for example will display when the computer is using the camera - an indicator will appear in the system tray.
